Lightbulb Enforcement of the Rules of Conduct

It has come to the attention to players as they are finding out that ArenaNet has made casinos illegal, and are now enforcing their Rules of Conduct, that there a misunderstanding on Rule #5.

Quote:
When communicating in Guild Wars using Global Chat (including, without limitation, server wide chat and use of the whisper command), you may not spam, flood, or make duplicate posts. For more information, please see the User Agreement section 4 (j).
Therefore, from this statement, this means that advertising Wanting to Sell and Wanting to Buy clearly breaks this rule. How? The developers designed this game with a channel known as Trade, which serves as a channel to advertise sell and buy items. Because they had this in mind, any post of this nature would be considered as spamming/flooding the Global channel with a duplicate message(s). Now a problem does arise for guild leaders or guild officers that are recruiting members. Do they use the Global channel and constantly make changes to their sentence to avoid a duplicate message, or what channel should they use? This of course is a question that should be answered by ArenaNet directly and not by players.
(Well I have not looked at the user agreement, because I cannot find it online anywhere, and it may answer this question.)

So what are your thoughts to what I have said up above, do you agree or disagree and why?

Personally, I qualify spamming as the same message multiple times in a row over a very short time span. If you want to sell a sword on the auction channel, then don't post

UBER SWORD 99-500 FIRE DAMAGE - 30K

20 times in a row, simply post it once, if no one bites, post it again a little while later, say a minute or two. I've seen dumbasses post the same for-sale message 10 times in a row over 5 seconds. That is what I call spamming.

i agree, if someone is in the market for something, or *might* buy a sword if they see a good one advertised, they'll have trade on. If someone has trade ignored, no way will they think "oh that looks nice i'll buy it" if they see it in local. The odd one sure, its easy to be talking in local then press enter before realising you forgot to change the channel, but those who sit there saying "WTS *item*" every 30 seconds or so in local will probably just be annoying the majority of people there into not wanting anything from them

And I also agree with Dargon on the spamming definition there, but spamming isn't JUST repeatedly doing that. You would be warned for spamming on this forum if you insisted on posting a reply to this thread saying "my character is amazing, come and duel me" because its not relevant to the topic. So by the same token, "wts/wtb" is spam in the local chat because it belongs in trade.

Good point on the guild one. I know it has been suggested that a LFG channel be implemented, perhaps they could make a channel for people who both wish to join a group AND those who want to join a guild.

Not to mention useless... The people are going to more then likely see your message (if sent once) if they're there to be trading... so it's just annoying^.^

Besides, to the poster... We want an auction /Petition auction!

If enough people start complaining about the trading, they may take the hint, but with all the complaining i already see, i think they have something in the works... the thing is Guild wars is a Brand new form of game, and they probably want to do Everything a bit differently then other mmorpg's... it's like a mmorpg for people that Love community and Hate mmorpgs... like me... and hundreds of thousands of others it seems.

oh the developers are out in force by the way, and what they are doing to peeps who do WTS/WTB on global is putting them on mute. /mute is a developer command which silences a specific play to the world.

Before becoming a GW player I was a Linage II player. While the game had some serious flaws in my opinion, one thing I felt it did pretty well was address the issue of trade. A player could essecially set up "shop" displaying 5-10 items (don't remember how many) that they wanted to sell, with a small title above their head. Interested parties could them come to their shop, see what they had available, and purchase it. If they felt the price wasn't reasonable, they could whisper the player and try to negotiate a better price.

Anyone else who played the game knows that these shops could cause lots of lag in high traffic cities, but it seems GW would avoid this problem with the district system they have instituded for each city. Even though there was a certain amount of TRADE chat that went on, it seemed to be MUCH less than in GW. Some busy cities like Ascalon City are almost unreadable because of the constant TRADE chat. Just my two cents..

I also believe that by spamming they mean saying the samething like 3 or 4 time in 30 seconds or so. Other then that I think alot of this has to do with people not using the right channels for trading and stuff.

I totally agree with you guys here. Sending out multiple requests for selling over and over again really annoys me. If I have something to sell, I send it out once maybe every 10 minutes or so, then if no takers will simply change districts, but will never spam the chat/trade lines continualy. Most of the times if I am not selling or buying, I simply turn off the trade chat line to avoid being spammed over and over again by the same people. An auction house or even what was suggested above would be ideal.

Which brings me to my second point, those DAMN Casinos! I have absolutely no interest in gambling at all. Being spamed 15 to 20 times every 5 minutes to play a casino is very irratating!!! Why should I have to close local chat just to get away from it? My solution is to send the casino spamers whisper chats "to stop spaming us" and of course I send it to them over and over again as many times as they spam the local chat...now I am aware that they can put me on their ignore list, but at least it gives me the satisfaction that they had to actually go in and manually type my toon's name in and click on the ignore tab, taking time away from their spaming!!! Then I simply send it out over and over again in local chat until they stop!!! Now this may sound like too much for some people, but if everyone did the same they would finally get the message!!! Remember, there are many underage teenagers playing GW and introducing them to gambling is simply not right! This game is ment to have fun, not start bad habits!!!

Cheers!

Exclamation Down With Spamers!!!!

i personaly, do not like to deal with people standing around shouting WTS/WTB BLAHBLAH. i find it annoying as hell and just really uncalled for in this kinda game. we do not craft anything that other players could/want to buy, we loot it. if anything, some kinda, "market town" would be cool, but not a place where all those annoying spamers stand around spaming, but more on the lines of what was done in SWG. SWGs bazzar was by far one of the most niffty things in a MMO. they could take that idea and tweek it. just have a hudge market area where people can put things up to sale for a small fee and collect it once it has been sold. just have different areas at which to sell items, like a weapons area that splits into staffs/axes/etc. this way, no spaming, and people can shop in peace when they feel like it. hell, they can even put a few up in some of the key areas of the world, make it some kinda warp spot within ascalon city ya know? like how they do the arenas. but no matter... just my 2cents worth of ideas and thoughts on the subject.

I'm glad they finally got rid of the casinos.

And when I sell something, I'll post it once in the Trade Channel. Wait 2 minutes, then post one more time. If no one bites, I'll pickup another mission and head out again.
